The Unused 1956 Kitchen

This house was built in 1956 but never lived in until it was sold in 2010. All of the interior was sparkling new and untouched. All of the appliances had never been used and even had the owners manuals taped to the sides of them. It’s a mystery as to why this house was never lived in.

Pink was a very popular color for kitchens and bathrooms at the end of WWII because of First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. It was her favorite color. What was eventually dubbed “Mamie Pink” was a symbol for the joy people felt at the end of World War II. It also represented patriotism, class and refinery.
