The Slightly Warped Website Says Goodbye

All good things…. It is with a sense of sadness but also with a sense of peace that I announce today I am ending The Slightly Warped Website after 22 years online. The Facebook page and YouTube channel will continue.

I started this stupid thing as a hobby back when I was in college, a home for Star Trek parodies and a place for me to extol my love of Sliders. Since then, it has grown into something I take genuine pride in, but as it has grown and become more popular, the costs of hosting the site has increased to the point that my hobby is costing me about 200 dollars a month and the ad revenue of the site has plummeted because Google is fucking its affilia…. I mean, because of the “changing face of online advertising.”

So, to be frank, it’s not as fun as it used to be and I’m afraid that, as the site becomes more of a burden and less of a hobby to me, it’s translating into my work.

I’m so very goddamn proud of this thing I did and I love each and every one of you for sharing this journey with me, but I think that, after over half of my lifetime, only three years short of a quarter of a century, it’s time to bow out gracefully rather than rot in public view for everyone to see.

Our last day in operation will be January 17th.

I will miss my daily folder of miscellaneous amusing crap.

When you are done with the universe, please spit it out so the rest of us can give it a whirl.

Sad to see you go Jason. Think I’ve been with you for most of that 22 years, and we have exchanged banter once or twice. I’ve liked and shared everything I could have. Will you be leaving the sight up as an archive of all the stuff you posted over the years? I hope so. Any way, it’s been a pleasure mate. Take care.

  • Kenny Kim

What?! No!!! I always look here on your website everyday for like, 5 years I think?? I remembered I started liking your website since I saw one of your posts about creepy facts, because I love creepy stuff.

Anyways, good luck on your future endeavors! And good thing I’m active on Facebook, so I can still see you there.

  • Natalie Powers

I’m genuinely sad over this! I’ve grown up with this website. It’s like taking something away from me that I’ve always had. It’s truly sad! I’ve never commented before but I had to with this post. Thank you for all the awesome content you’ve put up. It’s always brought a smile to my face. Thank you!!!!!!!

  • Anne-Marie de Jong

Sorry to see you go.. ๐Ÿ™ Thank you for the posts

  • Sheila Stamey

Aw,man. I want you to know something. I have started every day for a long time now by sipping over to this page. Because of the Net Neutrality pop up, now all of my state’s politicians have directly emailed me with their take on the subject. Its been better than sex because nmatter what, it always produced. I’ve laughed, cried, snickered at some filthy jokes, (shut my son in law down in the family dirty joke contest with one I learned here, to his amazement), and enlarged my world view. Will definitely be there on FB and company. Keep rocking, dude. God bless you.

  • Tonja M

Sorry to see you go, thanks for all the laughs.

  • Resident Smith

Good luck and thanks! Been one of my go to morning sites for the past 4 years or so. Your efforts were appreciated.

  • Jo

Really sorry to hear this, as reading your posts has been a much loved part of my daily routine for a few years. I have no idea how but you made every day interesting. I never knew whether you’d make me laugh, cry, shake my head, be amazed, be thoughtful and much more. You should be really proud of what you accomplished and the joy you brought to many people all over the world (for example I’m British living in Germany) . Thank you for all the fun. You will be sorely missed. Good luck in everything you do, and plan to do.

  • Paul Smith

Hi Jason, I am also sorry to hear this but I wish you well. I have had you bookmarked for a long time now because your collections always give me a lift and make me smile. So, well done and thanks.

  • George Whiteside

  • Christina Davis

I guess I can say now….thank you for publishing my terrible “T’Pol Kills the Enterprise Crew” fanfic here. ๐Ÿ˜›

And thanks for the memories. 22 years is a long ass time for a website. I hope you’ll at least put the fanfiction section into the Wayback Machine, or submitting them over to Archive of our Own for posterity.

  • Blake Madarasi

Hey Mate, I have no fucking idea who you are but I’ve been on this site for years, back when The Arcade was my fav visit. Probs visited for the first time in 2005. I just want to say thank you for all the BS time wasted in this great website! Good luck for the future, you really did something that was a hole lotta fun here. Going to miss Slightly Warped.

  • RecreationalPilot

Jason, thank you so much for providing this weekly diversion for me. I only discovered your site just over a year ago and it has become a weekly ritual. Perhaps you could put up a Donation Link so that your fans could contribute. But I get it, after a couple of decades, there comes a point where one must reclaim personal time and move on to new adventures.

Best Wishes in all of your endeavors! Once again, Thank you! You rock!

  • PC

Today the Internet has just become a sadder place. *removes cap and solemnly bows* I shall miss this website which I have been following almost daily for more years than I remember. I’m sure we all understand why you have made your decision Jason. I guess in a way reading your reasons makes it more sad.

Live long and prosper my friend, live long and frigging prosper!

  • Vincent J.

Sorry to see you go. i can understand about wanting to move on. I spent twenty years in the Navy, and that got a little old after a while.

  • I have learned so many things and seen things I cannot unsee while having your website open in a tab constantly on my computer. This is a real bummer. I have broadened the knowledge base of many by sharing the odd and amazing things I come across on here. They always want to know where I found out about this stuff. I agree completely with the suggestion of RecreationalPilot a few comments below (if that is possible). It would be great if there was some way you could preserve what you have posted to date and walk away from adding more content. Could you pull a Wikipedia and do an annual begathon just to cover the cost of hosting the site as is? Anyway, I understand you have your reasons for bowing out; I just REALLY appreciate what you do. Enjoy your future endeavors, and we would completely understand if you decide to return ๐Ÿ™‚
