The Neverending Family Vacation

Herman and Candelaria Zapp did what others only fantasize about.  They went on vacation… and didn’t come back!

They set out on their around the world venture in 2000 with a road trip from Buenos Aires to Alaska (a 44,000 mile trip!) and, once they got to The Great White North, they kept on going traveling to two dozen countries and putting 145,000 miles on their vehicle… the distance to the moon and back.  They even ship the car overseas so they can continue to travel in it!

Along the way, they picked up a few souveniers: Their child, Pampa, 8, was born in the United States; Tehue, 5, in Argentina; Paloma, 3, in Canada; and little Wallaby, 1, in Australia.  The children are home-schooled… or, in this case, world-schooled.

For their entire adventure, the Zapps have been traveling in a 1928 Detroit-made Graham Paige that cannot go on highways because it can’t go faster than 40 miles per hour.

While most of us can’t imagine a neverending road trip, for the Zapps, it’s a way of life.  So, if you’re ever on the highway and you see a travel-weary Graham Page puttering along on an access road, honk and wish the Zapps many happy roads ahead!
