The Ghost Car

This is a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe Six and was first displayed at the New York World’s Fair and later at the Smithsonian Institution.  Rather than steel, the body of the car is made of plexiglass and was intended to show spectators how the inner workings of the vehicle worked.

The Ghost Car was one of two transparent cars built by Pontiac in the 1930’s, but the location of the other car is unknown.  Recently, the Ghost Car was sold at auction for over $300,000.
