Star Trek: The Animated Series: “Eye of the Beholder”

Air Date: 01.05.1974
Stardate: 5501.2

Coming down from the high of “The Slaver Weapon,” “Eye of the Beholder” is a solid kick in the nuts with a simplistic two-dimensional story that moves at a snail’s pace and tells a tale already told in a much better way in the classic series.

Shatner, in particular, is quite irritating in this episode as he hams it up one minute and then underacts the next. You can tell that he never really took this show seriously and saw it as a paycheck.

Then, if that wasn’t stupid enough, Scotty of all people manages to save the day by accident while the big three bumble and stumble around like morons.

Interesting Fact: This episode introduced two water-themed landing craft, the Enterprise’s aqua-shuttle and the scouter-gig for the first and only time.

My impression is that they are… laughing at me.

Donner learns that shit is also in the eye in the beholder… of this episode!
