Season 2, Episode 8
When Jerry accidentally eats some mutated bacteria from Rick’s shelf in the fridge, the family takes him to an alien hospital where, after he recovers, is asked to donate his penis to a dying galactic ambassador who needs it as a functioning heart. If this ambassador dies, hundreds of billions could die with him, but is that really worth losing your penis?
This is an odd episode. Not uproariously funny, but not terrible either… decidedly somewhere in the middle of the road and I believe that the Robot Chicken-type plot devise of switching channels on Rick’s multidimensional television didn’t help the episode that much either.
It just seems like an odd fit. The otherwise funny and interesting story about Jerry and his decision to keep or give up his penis in the name of galactic peace kept getting interrupted by a hit or miss collection of clips from other universes. Some funny… some not so much.
Through it all, Rick and Morty commented on the videos they were watching and so, it was almost like Robot Chicken meets Beavis and Butt-Head meets Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Here, though, it just didn’t work. Sure, not to the point I would call “Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate” a horrible episode, but it was definitely a break from the norm that didn’t quite work out in the show’s favor.
