Interesting Book Sculpture

If you’re walking along the shoreline of Denmark, just outside the city of Aarhus, you might happen upon hole in the ground protected by glass.  Inside is a shaft of books that seem to go on forever.

The work is called My Father Died It Was Like a Whole Library Had Burned Down and it is by Susanna Hesselberg, a Swedish-based artist, who wanted to illustrate the knowledge that is lost when someone passes away.  The sculpture is made of 3,000 books and uses no mirrors or illusions.
