Season 2, Episode 2
Airdate: September 28, 2015
Well, someone certainly lit a fire under this show’s ass.
The Arkham Asylum escapees are reeking havoc on Gotham City doing everything from throwing poor bastards off roofs to setting school buses on fire and just when you think it can’t get any worse for the good people at the GCPD, it totally does when Jerome (who might be the Joker but who knows) and his friends come into the police station itself with guns blazing.
Cameron Monaghan was amazing in this episode. A true Joker… his white hot focus on the role and menacing energy makes him both dangerous and charming at the same time and I would say that the Russian Roulette scene will probably go down as one of Gotham‘s highlights. Talk about a tense moment, Monaghan’s rising levels of cool insanity was so intense and perfect. It’s a shame that his portrayal of the Joker (fuck it, he’s totally playing the Joker) will probably be overlooked in the grand scheme of things.
I think I said last week (and I’m too lazy to look it up) that Gotham isn’t what I would consider “must-see” TV, but I could be eating my words soon. This season – hell, just this episode – has made the show phenomenally more interesting by focusing on some actual Batman villains. I really hope Monaghan isn’t going anywhere soon because Gotham needs him… Gotham needs him bad.
It’s the first time I’ve felt this way, but I’m actually itching to know what happens next week. Way to go, Gotham.
