THE FORGOTTEN FROZEN WORLD OF
FULTON MARKET COLD STORAGE

Fulton Market Cold Storage Company, essentially a ten-story freezer that opened in Chicago's Meatpacking district in the 1920s, recently pulled up stakes and moved out to the suburbs leaving its 90 year old building ready and prime for redevelopment.

There was just one problem...

Inside there were floors of cold storage that had gone unused for thirteen years and the rooms had transformed into surreal places complete with ice stalactites as delicate as feathers and mini-glaciers.  The building has been defrosted since then, but not before photographer Gary Robert took these and more amazing pictures -- the rest can be found on his site here.
