Pitch Lake, located in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is the world's largest natural deposit of asphalt.  Covering 40 hectares, it is estimated to be 75 meters deep, Pitch Lake is not only a tourist attraction, but also a source for road asphalt, some of which was used to pave the streets of New York City.

The tar is so thick that one can actually walk across the surface of the lake.
