THE UK PAVILION IN SHANGHAI

This unusual structure designed by Thomas Heatherwick for Shanghai Expo 2010 is a six-story cube penetrated by 60,000 transparent acrylic rods that would sway under the wind.  The rods were designed to filter sunlight into the cube during the day and to filter artificial light out during night.  The rods displayed images of seeds on the inside.  As an added touch, the building would display a Union Jack when viewed from any angle.
