Antarctica’s Dry Valleys

While most of Antarctica has over two and a half miles of ice on it, there are rare places there there is no ice at all thanks to a rain shadow effect.  Known as Dry Valleys, they are cut from the earth by winds topping 200 mph leaving a terrain that is more like the surface of Mars than any other place on Earth.
