I love arm!

There’s not a lot to say about this episode simply because this episode isn’t about much. The story is at face value and very little seems to happen in that story.

The episode is primarily consisted of boring scenes where the crew try and figure out what’s going on and, really, there’s not a lot here that’s bad and there’s not a lot that’s good. I would say that it’s an average episode, but it lacks the positive optimism and idealism of other episodes when the solution is simply to kill the aliens.

Interesting Fact: Strange New Worlds VII later established that Romaine married Morgan Bateson from the TNG episode “Cause and Effect”, a fact that Scott disliked intensely.

“When a man of Scotty’s years falls in love, the loneliness of his life is suddenly revealed. His heart once throbbed to the sound of the ship’s engines; now all he can see is the woman.”
– Kirk… yeahbuwhat?

Scotty’s love life is the shits. He may be Starfleet best engineer, but he’s got poor choices in women. Either they’re crazy (like Lt. Romaine, whose name is fitting as she has all the personality of a head of lettuce), they get killed off, or they spurn him quickly.
